  • Buy souvenirs at Tokyu Hands, Loft, Daiso or Don Quijote

The Japanese mostly buy food and sweets as souvenirs. If you want something other than that visit these three cool shops. Don’t leave it until the airport!
  • Visit a lesser known area

    Avoid the crowds

    More info @ japan-guide.com
    - Kichijoji, a microcosmos of Tokyo central. - Koenji, the former ‘punk rock’ area. Lots of cute 2nd hand stores. - Nakano Broadway is better than Akihabara for nerdy stuff (action figures, vintage Star Wars merch, etc)
  • Go to a free Observatory

    Don’t pay for the SkyTree

    More info @ japan-guide.com
To get a great view over Tokyo, SkyTree and Tokyo Tower and the Mori tower are the best known options. But they all ask entrance fees. Go to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government buildings in Shinjuku, or the Bunkyo Civic Centre and it’s completely free!
  • Tokyo Architecture tour

A walk around some beautiful buildings in the Omotesando area. Architects like Kenzo Tange, Tadao Ando, Kengo Kuma featured.

    More info @ viator.com
  • Sensō-ji

    Buddhist temple

The trick to Sensō-ji is to go near and or after dark. It is beautifully lit and you avoid the - massive - crowds
  • Nezu-jinja Shrine

    A tunnel of torii gates

You don’t have to go all the way to Kyoto to see a vermillion torii gates tunnel like at Fushimi Inari. You can get a taste of what that is like right here in Tokyo.
  • Tokyo Ramen tour

    Go beyond Ichiran and Ippudo

    More info @ 5amramen.com
There are no rules to ramen. That’s what makes it exciting.
